Well, not the actual moving part and all the irritating hassles that go along with that, but after that's all over with. A couple of months left to go.
I think the big thing will be not needing a car to go everywhere. Here in Waterloo has been the first time we've lived in a newer subdivision that, like most, is totally car-oriented. This has ended up bothering me a lot more than I thought it would, and is probably the most annoying part of an otherwise nice place we're in now. In Guelph, we'll be in a much older area, just a few blocks from downtown, with many other services nearby. Pauline will get to walk to work, which will be a definite improvement over the current commute, to say the least.
Some of the other things we'll be able to walk to which currently require a car trip: grocery store, drug store, bank, movie place, liquor store, coffee bar, coffee roastery (this I still don't understand about KW), many restaurants, health food store, farmer's market, etc. There are certainly better options for some of these (e.g. a better grocery store) that are farther away and so will be worth the drive once in a while, and the gym we'll be joining is biking/driving distance also, but it'll be nice that so many day to day things are available.
Also we'll see how the river trails in Guelph work out... there's some trails in the nature area adjacent to where we live now, but not long enough to use for running, while with my knees running on pavement can't be as regular a thing as I'd like. Won't be nearly as nice as being just off the Niagara Escarpment and its trails like we were in Ancaster of course, but an improvement from now.
