Geek Truism #762.

If there's a nail in front of you, and all you have is a hammer, the best thing to do is invent an entire new line of tools from scratch, which will obviously work much better and thus be far more useful than any existing tools, especially the hammer, which after all does such a ridiculously poor job of sanding drywall.

Tcl and Web Testing.

Jean-Claude put together a quick Tcl front end to Selenium Remote Control, similar to the bindings for the other scripting languages. So another nice alternative for web testing, particularly useful for the more heavily Javascript'ed apps. Info and link on this Tcler's Wiki page.

Hit the Nail on the Head.

The consultants who they hired to review the emergency department and broader contributing factors for Waterloo region released their report. I noticed this particular bit about the hospital that Pauline used to work at before she quit out of frustration with how pathetically badly managed the place was:

"Grand River Hospital has been seen as a hospital which fails to effectively identify issues, develop response strategies, and implement them. It is believed that although issues are raised, the issues are discussed indefinitely with no closure and as a result there is no resolution of issues and no change in policies, practices or processes."

Guelph Company on TechCrunch.

Guelph's GeoSign was mentioned on TechCrunch on account of a very sizeable funding deal they'd done recently. Guelph is far more known in the life sciences area than for software/web companies (unlike, say, Waterloo), but like most places these days, it has its share of lots of little software shops and the odd larger one.
