Attended last night's Guelph DemoCamp (had gone to the first one but missed the second), which was both interesting and a good amount of fun... there's something about holding these events in a bar that for some reason encourages that...!
Had a chance to talk to some interesting people, and saw some interesting things shown off. Interesting to hear the guys behind SalesBully, who have software that helps Internet marketers easily implement a bunch of frighteningly effective techniques for increasing conversions. A number of conversations and demos also touched on Facebook use and applications, which given the existing penetration and high rate of adoption is opening up all kinds of non-traditional development opportunities that come with quite compelling (and usable) benefits for their users.
The Facebook stuff also makes me feel old and obsolete, but interestingly the audience at the Guelph camps is somewhat of an older crowd, on average well past the university or early-career demographic. A good mix of both local people and those from surrounding locales; there's for example a good crossover that's developed between the Guelph camps and the Waterloo ones. While it's a pretty low key group, when you dig a bit deeper and see what many of the people are doing now and the kinds of things they've accomplished in the past, it's actually quite impressive.
